Time for Real User Monitoring (RUM) to Ante Up

Time for Real User Monitoring to Ante UpI started to write this post about Real User Monitoring (RUM), and of course quickly found out just how many vendors are also blogging about this. Clearly managing the end user experience has reached a fever pitch. So what makes eG Innovations different?

Today’s digital business processes are web-based and managing the actual quality of the digital experience has driven Real User Monitoring (RUM) to a mission-critical status. RUM allows operators to test the actual service quality delivered, in both development and production environments.

Back in 2001 eG Innovations announced a (unique at the time) “web adaptor” technology that enabled customers to monitor real web transactions. Of course, we also made sure that these end user experience metrics were embedded into our patented root-cause diagnosis technology. This enables our customers to not only know where a problem is, but why it is happening.

RUM addresses the WHERE

Today the requirements for real user monitoring (RUM) are much broader, and eG Innovations has enhanced our capabilities:

  • Identify and fix issues before they impact your business and before users notice
  • Know exactly what users of your browser and mobile applications are seeing with each access
  • View breakdowns of performance by components, by tiers, by locations, by pages and more
  • Uncover web application bottlenecks that are affecting performance
  • Enhance the user experience based on analysis of user behavior, device and browser usage
  • Better performance means better conversions and higher customer retention

Real User Monitoring enables IT to quickly triage slowness and isolate where problem areas are (i.e., is it the network, server backend, content download or the front-end browser?)

These enhancements include unified visibility, geographic dashboards, analytics and optimization capabilities as well. RUM with eG Enterprise enriches your understanding of demand and delivery across global locations. But these features are rapidly becoming the “ante” for playing in the RUM game.

RUM does not address the WHY

What’s old for eG Innovations may be new for real user monitoring users. Our patented and industry-first virtualization-aware, auto-diagnosis capability added to the simplicity of detecting, diagnosing and repairing performance problems in complex physical, virtual and cloud environments. It is a critical differentiator worth understanding. By automating these additional diagnostics, eG Innovations can tell you specifically why slowness is occurring as well.

I heard a customer once say something about how measurements need to have a path to action, and the shortest path to resolving end user experience performance issues will always be the “winning hand.”

So if you’re looking into refreshing your approach to real user monitoring, considering application performance management solutions, or looking into performance monitoring as part of a DevOps initiative, you might want to put eG Enterprise on your short list.

It’s time to up the ante.
